While I have discussed (briefly) this topic of 'if' hip hop is (truly) dead or not, I have decided to take a DIFFERENT approach, fo' real fo' real....
(You) see, the problem with Nas' '06 album "Hip Hop Is Dead" is the instant controversy it created. I mean, just consider the fact that really NO ONE agreed with him.
'You can't handle the truth!'
Think that was the problem? Well, all in all...I 'know' hip hop is not dead...but one cannot escape the idea of it truly being deaded....
With the claim of having it born in to my veins, I've actually been born in to the most classic hip-hop of all time.....think Eric B & Rakim, KRS-ONE, MC Shan, and the rest of the 'Remember the 80s' crew....
But just like the "classic" rock and other formats...these genres have either died out or just lost their true essence.... So I wonder, 'Is that what happened or is happening to "my" music?'
While I doubt ever imagining a return to the true lyricist (Jigga retiring, Nas aging, and LL...well, LL is LL....), I have to give it up to the hard core heads, especially the underground ones that continue to 'fight' for the love of the music (although you 'know' when they say it's NOT about the money....IT'S ABOUT THE MONEY...)
So, with a slight 'farewell'-ish kiss to my hip hop as I remember it, I have to use my warrior-like mentality of "Hope for the best, prepare for the worse"...so I am thinking twice, sometimes, before changing those Chris Brown meets Lily Allen while mixing up with Korn records.......wait......on second thought......
STOP, STOP, STOP LYING....
Okay, so maybe I'll be a TRUE "OG" with hip hop...because before you see me cross over to another format for fear of losing the other you'll see me rockin' pink dew rags/du rags/doo rags/(fill in the blank)....(sorry, '02 "Hey Ma" Cam'...)
If hip hop falls, I'm fallin' with it....so remember, 'who loves ya, baby....'
